Stainless steel 347 is a stabilized alloy whose specialty is the exceptional resistance to intergranular corrosion. Apart from that, it holds great level of strength and therefore can be used under high temperatures ranging from 800 to 1500° F (i.e. 427 to 816° C) in the chromium carbide precipitation. The reason behind the stabilization of this alloy plate is the addition of columbium and tantalum. Alloy 347 plates can only be hardened by cold working and not by heat treatment. It is feasible for welding and can be processed by standard shop fabrication.

Stainless steel 347H is the higher carbon version of the alloy 347, i.e. “H” grade. It is designed to gain higher creep resistance and it can bear higher temperatures up to 1000° F (537° C). Mostly, the carbon content present in this alloy causes dual certification.
